Last year's average tax rate was 25.9% ($35,599 on $137,505). Setting aside 30% leaves a cushion for the higher rates on the top slice of income.
Each bar is a payment from Spark, excluding GST, in the month it landed. Income tax counts the money when it's received, so this is the view that matters for the return.
Payments from April to June 2024 ($19,416) came before this chart starts, and the 2025 return reports $2,961 less business income than the invoices add up to, which looks like expenses.
Sales GST you've collected from Spark and paid on. Expense receipts will reduce the amount due on 28 October, but they're not tracked in the sheet yet.
The tax on the whole year, less what you've already paid. Business income and the $36,099 provisional are fixed. Everything else is your best guess until the real figures arrive.

Last year's column is the filed return. Last year had no provisional payments, so the whole bill came as one terminal payment.
